SONY PICTURES TELEVISION SELLS ARGENTINE ADAPTATION OF MAD ABOUT YOU FOLLOWING SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH IN CHINA
CULVER CITY, CA, February 4, 2016— Following the successful launch of Mad About You in China, Sony Pictures Television (SPT) announced today that the next adaptation of the hit, multi award-winning comedy will be heading to Argentina. Telefe will adapt 60 episodes of the half-hour comedy, which will be known locally as Loco Por Vos (Crazy for You), with production slated to begin in early March.
The announcement follows the top-rated premiere of the SPT’s Chinese adaptation, known locally as Xin Hun Gong Yu (Wedding Apartment), which has amassed 161 million views on AVOD platform Youku in its first three weeks. The comedy, which also airs on Dragon TV, continues to rank as the No. 1 show in the timeslot among all national satellite channels.
“As we have seen in China, Mad About You works especially well as a scripted format because it presents young married life in a funny and universally relatable way,” says Jeff Lerner, executive vice president, scripted development, international production for SPT. “We will be working very closely with Telefe to create stories that are true to the original in a way that is also authentic to audiences in Argentina.”
Loco Por Vos will follow a city-dwelling newlywed couple looking to sustain marital bliss despite many hurdles including their careers, families and friends. The series is based on the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning sitcom starring Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser that ran in the U.S. for seven seasons. From executive producers Danny Jacobson, Paul Reiser and Larry Charles, the U.S. comedy was produced by In Front Productions with Nuance Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television.
SPT has adapted several sitcoms for Argentina with Telefe including Cascados con Hijos (Married…with Children), La Niñera (The Nanny), Hechizada (Bewitched) and Quien es el Jefe (Who’s the Boss).
