Series written by veteran Chinese screenwriter Shu Huan, stars real-life couple Li Jiahang and Li Sheng

BEIJING, December 1, 2015 — Huaso Film/TV Digital Production, the joint-venture production company of Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and CCTV6’s HuaCheng Pictures, and Croton Media announced today that they have secured two deals to bring the local adaptation of SPT’s hit, multi award-winning comedy Mad About You to audiences across China.

Shanghai Media Group has acquired the exclusive, first-run satellite TV rights to the new comedy, which will be known locally as Xin Hun Gong Yu (Wedding Apartment). The series will debut in early January 2016 on Dragon TV.

In a separate deal, Youku Tudou has secured the online video rights to the series, with episodes available on the streaming platform shortly after the satellite TV premiere.

“With Xin Hun Gong Yu, we have combined SPT’s expertise in Hollywood storytelling with strong local writing talent to create a comedy that captures the spirit of the original series in a way that is authentically Chinese,” said Andrea Wong, president, international production for SPT and president, international for Sony Pictures Entertainment. “We are pleased to be working with both Dragon TV and Youku Tudou to bring this series to a broad Chinese audience.”

Xin Hun Gong Yu follows a city-dwelling newlywed couple looking to sustain their marital bliss despite many hurdles including their careers, families and friends. The comedy is written by veteran Chinese screenwriter Shu Huan (Lost in Hong Kong, Lost in Thailand) and stars real-life husband and wife Li Jiahang (New Princess Pearl) and Li Sheng (New My Fair Princess).

The series is based on the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning comedy starring Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser that ran in the U.S. for seven seasons on NBC.  From executive producers Danny Jacobson, Paul Reiser and Larry Charles, Mad About You was produced by In Front Productions with Nuance Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Huaso has produced local versions of other SPT formats in China including health and wellness-focused talk show Dr. Oz for Zhejiang Television, game show Raid the Cage for Jiangsu Television, and competition series Dancing Nation for CCTV.

Mad About You is the latest comedy to be adapted in Asia by SPT, following Indian versions of Everybody Loves Raymond for Star Plus and I Dream of Jeannie for SAB.
