GERMANY'S VOX INVESTS IN MORE DRAGONS' DEN
CANNES 16 October 2014: Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has inked a second series deal for global hit format Dragons’ Den in Germany following the huge ratings success of the debut season last month. The new series will again be produced by SPT Productions Germany for commercial broadcaster VOX.
The hit business series, known locally as Lions’ Den (Die Höhle der Löwen) launched to critical acclaim and strong ratings (1.8m) banking the greatest audience of the day for the broadcaster. Ratings continued to go from strength-to-strength throughout the series, with the popular show exceeding the channel’s slot average across all major demographics, and the most recent episode recording an impressive series high of just over 2m viewers.

Dragons’ Den continues to find new audiences around the world with recent first-run deals inked by SPT in both South Africa and Portugal. M-Net’s Mzansi Magic cable channel in South Africa recently aired a first series run (12x60’) produced by Rapid Blue, while in Portugal, Take & Sound Productions and Blue Pipeline produced 13 episodes of the format for commercial broadcaster SIC.
A third series of the perennially popular format has also been sold into Sweden to Viasat’s TV8 channel. The 10x60’series is due to air next year and is produced by ITV Studios Nordic. Now midway through the 12th season in the UK, Dragons’ Den is enjoying impressive ratings, outperforming BBC2’s primetime average by +57%.
