SONY PICTURES TELEVISION UNLEASHES HOUNDS INTO NEW TERRITORIES


Horror game show launches strongly in UK, Sweden and Denmark
 
London, 9 October 2014 – Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has sealed a number of new deals for horror game show Release the Hounds, it was announced today. Following strong launches in the UK, Denmark and Sweden, the format will be adapted across numerous territories including Russia, The Netherlands, Lithuania, and Peru. 
 
In Russia, national broadcaster Peretz TV has ordered a run which is set to air in 2015. 
 
The format has also been ordered in Lithuania, where Paprika Latino will produce four episodes of Pasiut? šunys for the MTG owned TV3 channel. The series premieres in October and will be hosted by  Mindaugas Rainys.
 
In the Netherlands, Tuvalu Media will produce a one hour special of the format for Fox, and the Dutch broadcaster has also acquired all six episodes of the finished UK series. 
 
The format has also been sold to Latin America to Peruvian broadcaster América  TV.  
 
Jane Dockery, senior vice president, formats, international distribution for SPT, said: “Release the Hounds is fresh, exciting and genuinely different and has already done brilliantly in the UK while launching strongly in both Sweden and Denmark. These recent deals take the total number of local adaptations so far to nine.” 
 
In the UK, Release the Hounds recently launched on ITV2 and ranked as the #1 telecast of the day for the channel’s key Adults 16-34 demographic. It also claimed the #1 time slot position amongst digital channels with Adults 16-24 and Males 16-24 and generated a huge amount of social media interaction.
 
In Sweden and Denmark, the format was picked up by TV3 for four episodes each. Strix Television has produced the Danish Slip køterne løs as well as the Swedish Jagad av hundar adaptations of the format. The premiere of Slip køterne løs, which aired at the end of August, secured the channel’s second biggest audience across the summer. In Sweden, Jagad av hundar, premiered last week and exceeded TV3's weekday primetime average by +237% with Young Adults 15-24, +101% with Adults 15-49 and +53% with all viewers. 
 
Release The Hounds is a horror game show in which contestants have to complete terrifying challenges in a dark, forested country estate in order to walk away with a cash prize.  Three contestants – all close friends – have to look for three keys to unlock three chests filled with increasing amounts of money. But to find each key they first have to complete challenges designed to test them to the limit. Once the keys are discovered and the chests unlocked, the friends can keep the cash – but only if they can escape from the estate by outrunning an angry pack of hounds guarding the money. 
 
The format was created by Gogglebox Entertainment, a joint venture with SPT, and is distributed globally by SPT.
