New Teleseries Starring Natalia Reyes, Majida Issa, Julián Román and Ernesto Benjumea Begins Production in Colombia

MIAMI and BOGOTA (July 16, 2014) — Sony Pictures Television and RCN Television announced today that they will co-produce “Lady, La Vendedora de Rosas,” a new original teleseries inspired by the real life story of the meteoric rise and fall of Colombian film star Lady Tabares.

The 70-episode, one-hour teleseries will be produced by Sony Pictures Television’s production company Teleset in Colombia. Production has begun on location in and around Medellín and Bogotá. The series will air on RCN Television in Colombia and is being sold around the world by Sony Pictures Television.

“Lady, La Vendedora de Rosas” follows the true story of a young woman named Lady Tabares from the ghettos of Medellín who is discovered by a famous director and cast in the starring role of “The Rose Seller,” the Colombian film nominated for the Cannes International Film Festival’s coveted Palme d’Or. After making a splash on the worldwide film festival circuit, success follows the award-winning actress and her family. However, her fairy-tale life takes a sudden and scandalous turn when the 20 year-old actress, along with her boyfriend, is implicated in the murder of a local taxi driver. Ultimately convicted of the crime, the real-life Lady Tabares was released from prison last month after serving 12 years of her 26-year sentence.

“Lady, La Vendedora de Rosas” stars Natalia Reyes (“Cumbia Ninja”) as Lady Tabares, Majida Issa (“La Ronca de Oro”) as Fatima Tabares, Julián Román (“La Viuda Negra”) as Treinta y Ocho, and Ernesto Benjumea (“Escobar, el patrón del mal”) as Marco Garcia. Andrea Marulanda (“Metástasis” and “La Prepago”) serves as executive producer; Lina Arboleda (“Metástasis”), Juliana Lema (“Amor en Custodia”) and Pedro Rozo (“El Ultimo Matrimonio Felíz”) serve as series writers.
