SONY PICTURES TELEVISION ANNOUNCES TWO SCRIPTED DEALS FOR THE MIDDLE EAST
ARABIC ADAPTATIONS OF BETTY LA FEA AND EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND COMING TO OSN
Dubai, 20 December 2013: Sony Pictures Television has confirmed the first deal for its Arabic version of telenovela Betty La Fea with leading pay TV network in the Middle East and North Africa, OSN, acquiring the premiere rights. The regional broadcaster has acquired all 90 episodes of the series, which will be called Hebal Regal El Ghorab (Crow’s Foot) in Arabic and is due to premiere in January 2014. The local adaptation is developed and produced by SPT Arabia, based on the original format from RCN.
In addition, OSN has acquired the exclusive premiere window for season three of El bab x el bab, SPT Arabia’s local adaptation of sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. OSN has also licensed the first two seasons of the Arab language sitcom.
Ziad Kebbi, president of SPT Arabia, said: “SPT Arabia is leading the way in adapting international series for Arab audiences. Hebal Regal El Ghorab is our latest local production of an iconic global series, bringing our Arabic scripted catalogue to well over 150 hours.”
SPT has already successfully adapted Betty La Fea in Russia and Everybody Loves Raymond in Russia and Poland.
SPT Arabia was founded in November 2010 with offices in Dubai, Cairo and Beirut. The company represents SPT’s extensive catalogue, as well as third parties, across 22 countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
