SPT is the majority stakeholder in IMS, Latin America's leading digital ad company.

SPT's rich history dates back to 1948, when Screen Gems, the original television division of Columbia Pictures, became the first small-screen business created by a major studio. Screen Gems was renamed Columbia Pictures Television in 1974. In the late 1980s, with the advent of the TriStar Pictures banner that co-existed with Columbia Pictures, TriStar Television became another production entity within the studio. During that time, Bud Yorkin and Norman Lear's Tandem Productions/T.A.T Communications Company, as well as Embassy Television, were purchased by The Coca-Cola Company, which was then the owner of Columbia Pictures, and those production companies' myriad series became part of the SPT library. In 1994, the studio's two television units, Columbia Pictures Television and TriStar Television, merged to form Columbia TriStar Television. For consistency and to accurately reflect its association with Sony Pictures Entertainment, that moniker was changed to Sony Pictures Television in 2002.

For more than half a century, SPT has entertained the public with timeless programs in every genre. The studio is dedicated to producing and distributing exceptional programming to audiences around the world.
